Weddings abroad: How to cut your budget (and soak up the sun)
There’s something magical about getting married abroad. Picture-perfect sunsets, shadows stretching over swathes of fading white beach, palms rustling and actual honest to goodness sunshine you can (almost) guarantee.
However, it’s not just the beautiful locations that continue to attract more and more engaged couples to the idea of getting married abroad. As a recent post over at www.thisismoney.co.uk found, a wedding abroad could actually slash your wedding budget in half.

It’s no wonder then that couples are choosing overseas destinations for their perfect day – and it’s no wonder that destination weddings and venues turned out in style at this year’s National Wedding Show at the Birmingham NEC.
Although the Emirates countries were the pick for high-end luxury and lavish locations, Cyprus was by far and away the most well-represented country for destination weddings with several organisations holding court and attracting large numbers throughout the course of the three days – they also (quite literally) took the cake with the tastiest freebies we managed to find.
So why Cyprus? What could possibly persuade brides and grooms-to-be to jet off to the Mediterranean, soak up Greek or Turkish island life, with beaches, mountains, warmth and vibrancy well-suited to both young and old?

One of our customer Contact Team Leaders is planning on making the Cypriot selection this year, and it goes without saying that she chose to insure her wedding with us to cover against the risks involved in planning and organisation.
“We chose Cyprus as this is where we had our first summer holiday together when we first got together 10 years ago. We went in August (and it was over 45 degrees) – hopefully the beginning of June won’t be so hot. Fingers crossed!”
Apart from the weather, cheaper costs are another major factor in the decision-making process. “I’m a massive sun-lover, but we also chose to get married abroad because of the price. For us to be able to afford a UK wedding, we would have had to save up for many years to come. Now that we’ve paid for almost everything it’s only cost us half the amount and there are 60 of us going!”
