Zara Phillips and Mike Tindall announce engagement
Zara Phillips and rugby star Mike Tin
dall have announced their engagement after a 7 year courtship.
Following in her younger cousin’s, Prince William’s, footsteps Zara looks set to make 2011 a double header of royal weddings.
Zara and Mike meet at the 2003 Ruby World Cup in Australia and have been the topic of engagement speculation for quite some time.
Unlike William and Kate the couple were quick to let everyone know about the engagement, with the press announcement coming less than 24 hours after Mark popped the question.
In a press statement noon she said: ‘I was really shocked when Mike proposed but I am very happy.’
Tindall, 32, added: ‘I am delighted that Zara has agreed to marry me. We are both very excited about the next stage of our lives together.’
In fitting with their credentials as world class sports personalities and relaxed approach to the media attention, the couple wore casual, warm sporting attire for the official engagement photos taken outside their home.
It is expected that the couple will marry in 2011 with the reception taking place at a royal residence, possibly Frogmore near Windsor Castle.
