Wedding gifts ‘an expected custom’
Wedding insurance customers may be interested to hear one expert’s comments on nuptial etiquette.
In an article for the New York Times, decorum specialist Peggy Post explained how gift giving can be confusing but traditionally it is important that bridesmaids buy a present for bride.
She said: “A wedding gift to the couple is on a bridesmaid’s to-do list and outranks secondary gifts like a shower gift.”
It was suggested that friends need to still purchase a present even if they have forked out for the hen party and engagement gifts.
Ms Post claimed that it is customary to give a token to celebrate the wedding, whereas paying for events and buying pre-ceremony presents is a modern idea left to an individual’s personal discretion.
Elsewhere, when it comes to etiquette issues surrounding guest lists, Ms Post advised couples to address any problems with friends inviting additional people as soon as possible.
