Left without caterers on the eve of the wedding – one couple and their family pull off mission improbable.
A bride and groom, from London, will be forever grateful to family and friends who helped them to organise last minute catering, as they were left without wedding caterers on the eve of their wedding.
Simon Collis and Jessica Summerfield, had been planning their wedding for over 9 months and were due to marry in Norfolk, near Jessica’s Mother’s home.
They had picked their caterers from the internet; the chosen caterers had been in business for over 30 years and had good reviews on the website.
However, when, on the eve of thee wedding, the cold catering truck failed to arrive the bridal party began to fear the worst.
There fears were realised as they could not get through to the company on the phone and when the couple looked online they saw that they has ceased trading, due to ill health.
Without a wedding breakfast, evening buffet and even chairs to sit on the bride and groom started to panic. With 120 guests arriving from all over the world the wedding really had to go on.
Frantic planning started and family and friends worked until the early hours of the morning to order new supplies and catering.
Farm shop Back to the Garden, agreed to help. They provided a hog roast with organic vegetables and an organic rhubarb and custard sweet for the daytime meal.
The family phoned a Banqueting Hire Services to see if chairs, tables and cutlery could be delivered in time for the reception dinner. The Hire service was shut when they received the call, but taking pity on the couple they agreed to reopen and deliver the much needed supplies that evening.
Meanwhile a local Tesco’s prepared a buffet for 120 people, which would be ready in time for the reception.
Amazingly the night’s hard work paid off and by the time the Jessica walked down the aisle new catering and reception arrangements were in place.
Some guests were only made aware of the last minute drama as the speeches were delivered.
