Couple celebrate Star Trek themed Civil Partnership
Anita Bayliss and Margaret Wood have celebrated their Civil Partnership with a slight twist. The theme for the wedding was entirely based around the television show Star Trek.
The couple are both big fans of the show, and met on an internet forum where they discussed their love for the famous television programme. After long conversations they realised they were meant to be, and decided to tie the knot at Swansea City’s Liberty Stadium.
Both the women were fashioning full Star Trek outfits modelled on the show’s hero, Captain Jean-Luc Picard, and all their guests also dressed up as characters from the show to adhere to the theme.
The outfits had to be made and imported from Hong Kong, as not many places in the UK create replica outfits of this nature.
Margaret Wood said: ‘We met because of Star Trek. About 14 years ago I had set up a forum on the internet about the show and we started chatting through that. All our family and friends were very excited about the wedding.’
Anita said: ‘Both of my sons dressed up in Captain Kirk outfits.’
All 40 of their guests were in outfits from the show. Margaret said: ‘If they weren’t in costume they wouldn’t have been allowed in! Everybody look amazing. One of my work mates came as a Borg and she looked really fantastic. It was such a great day.’
Swansea Council registrar Edith Morgan said: ‘I don’t think we’ve conducted a Star Trek themed ceremony before so this was a first. These ceremonies are very special for the people involved and it’s great that Anita and Margaret are also involved with something they are both passionate about. I’m sure they had a wonderful day.’
