A couple who met at a Lockerbie memorial dinner are to marry
An American couple whose families were both left scarred by the Lockerbie bombing are to marry.
Sonia Stratis and Chris Tedeschi first met at a memorial dinner for lost family members and are set to marry tomorrow in New Jersey.
Sonia lost her father Elia Stratis in the tragedy while Chris became part of a family deeply affected by the bombing when his father married a Lockerbie widow and from the age of 13 Chris grew up with 3 stepsiblings that had lost their father.
The pair met two years ago at a dinner which marked the 20th anniversary of the terrorist attack and their love for each other is proof that good things can come from even the most horrific tragedies.
The couple are aware that their wedding date marks the one year anniversary of the release from prison of, Abdelbaset Ali Mohmed al Megrahi, the only man ever convicted for the bombing but they are refusing to let the anniversary ruin the day.
Speaking in the Daily Mail, Miss Stratis said: “Yes, it is the anniversary, but we can’t let it stop our lives. He (Megrahi) took my father from me, but I’m not going let him stop the fruitfulness of my life.
“Sometimes God has a way of bringing something good out of something so horrible as the destruction of so many lives.
“We’re going to get married, and hopefully have children, so new lives are going to come out of the lives that were lost.”
