Temporary ramps ‘could make venues wheelchair friendly’
One expert's advice on finding a suitable venue with wheelchair-friendly access may be helpful for couples planning to invest in wedding insurance.
Cerebral palsy sufferer Carrie-Ann Fleming told the Guardian how it is not always easy to find a location that caters for disabled individuals.
When planning a wedding where wheelchairs will be in attendance, she recommended holding the ceremony and reception at the same place.
Ms Fleming explained that it is "far easier to spend the whole day at one location for any wheelchair-users in your wedding party".
If brides and grooms find their dream venue but it only has stairs, discussing the possibility of installing a temporary ramp was suggested.
These can then be decorated using a runner of material to decorate the slope so it does not detract from the aesthetic of the building, Ms Fleming stated.
The Disabled Shop blog recommends thinking "outside the box" and considering getting hitched in a park or holding a reception in a favourite restaurant, for a simple way of planning a big day.
