Same-sex marriage held at Empire State Building
The Empire State Building celebrated the legalisation of same-sex marriages in New York yesterday (February 14th) by hosting the nuptials of several gay and lesbian couples.
Wedding insurance may have been taken out by the individuals once they heard they had won a contest to be among just four lucky couples to tie the knot at the iconic landmark.
For almost 20 years, ceremonies have taken place each Valentine's Day on the 61st floor of the tower, with thousands of people applying for a chance to say 'I do' at the site.
However, this is the first year same-sex couples have been allowed to take part, with the move following the legalisation of gay weddings in New York having been announced last June.
The Empire State Building was unveiled in 1931 and has appeared in several Hollywood blockbusters including Sleepless in Seattle, which stars Tom Hanks and Meg Ryan.
