Mystery attacker slashes charity shop wedding dresses
An Oxfam charity shop may have to claim on its wedding insurance following an act of vandalism on gowns held at a store in Worcester.
Staff at the shop discovered several bridal, designer and bridesmaid dresses had been slashed by an unknown attacker after checking the outfits at around 14:00 GMT on Monday (February 13th).
The gowns were worth several thousands of pounds when originally purchased and were expected to raise £500 in a second-hand condition.
Julie Skipp, manager at the store, said the wedding rail always attracted a lot of interest from customers, as many individuals cannot afford to spend large sums of money on their dress.
"It's not just Oxfam that loses out, but it's also the people who would have benefited from those dresses. It just doesn't many any sense," she told the Worcester News.
A bridal store in the US that defaced unsold gowns when it closed its doors last month attracted criticism from members of the public, who claimed the dresses could have been donated to charity.
