Bride receives gift of life from best man
Wedding insurance customers may be touched to hear about a best man who gave his best friend's wife the gift of life for their nuptials.
Leanne Stefanovic was diagnosed with kidney failure four years ago and has been undergoing nine hours of dialysis every day since.
However, shortly before she tied the knot with her husband Shaun last year, the groom's best man Stuart Kilgannon discovered he was a donor match and offered to give the bride one of his kidneys.
Last week, the transplant successfully took place and both parties are recovering in hospital.
Mr Stefanovic commented: "Stuart is my hero. I saw him afterwards and cried with him. He was groggy and just said start living life'."
Meanwhile, Mr Kilgannon described helping his friends as "a fantastic feeling".
According to NHS Online, chronic kidney disease is highest in South Asian communities with donors from this ethnic group in short supply.
